Make setup repeatable
Saved camera and recording configurations let researchers return to an established setup.
Project case study
Python camera-acquisition software by Raquel Sandoval Ortega: record up to six Basler or USB cameras with live preview, reusable setups and metadata.
A desktop application that makes multi-camera acquisition accessible through a guided interface, while retaining the settings and metadata needed to understand each recording.
Identify cameras and assign useful names.
Arrange views and check camera settings.
Start immediately, in groups or on a schedule.
Keep MP4 videos with recording metadata.
The problem
Behavioural recordings can involve several cameras, repeated experimental setups and operators with different levels of programming experience. Camera selection, recording schedules and file naming need to work together without requiring a new script for every session.
My contribution
I developed a Windows GUI that connects camera setup, live preview and recording control in one workflow. The project turns recurring laboratory tasks into explicit controls and reusable configurations.
Design decisions
Saved camera and recording configurations let researchers return to an established setup.
Live layouts for multiple cameras support checks of framing, focus and illumination.
Metadata accompanies the video so frame counts, duration and acquisition settings can be inspected later.
Evidence
The public repository documents support for up to six Basler and ordinary USB cameras, a graphical setup workflow, scheduled recording, reusable settings and MP4/metadata outputs. It includes installation and troubleshooting guidance for researchers and developers.
Scope & limitations
Camera support and recording performance depend on drivers, USB bandwidth, storage and the chosen settings. Grouped starts are not a claim of hardware-level synchronisation. Check timing and dropped frames for the actual experimental setup.
For hiring teams
