The Academic me

By now I guess you know I am a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Lab of Dr. Gregory Corder, at UPenn, Pennsylvania, USA. I obtained my Ph.D. in 2023 from the University of Bern, Switzerland, where I started my work on the interaction between pain and sleep using in vivo electrophysiology.
Currently, I'm focusing on the neural circuits driving pain-induced sleep disturbances.
You can either access my full academic CV here or check the simplified version on my LinkedIn. For a description of my research go to "About my research".

The Professional me

Besides research, I am on a mission of sharing knowledge, as I believe this is what fuels the advancement of the research community.

I started this mission during my PhD. I created and directed the organization Neuro Meetups Bern, a monthly seminar series that became the platform for early-career researchers of the University of Bern to share their research and invite speakers from all over Switzerland.
I also organized the first edition of Pint of Science in Bern, to bring research to non-scientific audiences.
Furthermore, I joined and directed during two consecutive years the young Swiss Society of Neuroscience, organizing national events and fundraising the necessary funds.

Currently, I am the chair of the Gordon Research Seminar on Sleep for 2026.

And last year, I designed and conducted a 7-session long workshop, titled From Lost to Boss: Python for Beginners, to teach Python for scientific data analysis and abandon Excel and its associated endless and error-prone copy-paste hours many researchers still struggle with.

So you made it this far into this description! I am impressed! I see you really really want to know who I am. In this case, let me tell you who I am outside of the profesional space. Let's continue.

The Everyday life me

Despite academia likes its people dedicating its full time to research (Yes! Don't frown at me... You know how academia praises longing work hours, over the weekend, at night, while you are delivering your baby... ), I enjoy being a well-rounded individual.

I speak 6 languages:
I grew up speaking Spanish and Catalan.
I started learning English in school, but it only improved after my Erasmus in Paris (France), when I met international folks and realized how clunky was my English and how thick was my Spanish accent...
During my Erasmus I learned French, later strengthened by living in Strasbourg (France) during my masters and working at the EPFL, in Lausanne (Switzerland), for two years.
I also learned German during an internship I did at the Charite hospital in Berlin (Germany). Which later switched to Swiss German as I moved to Switzerland once I finished my studies in Barcelona.

And I have hobbies too!

I love practicing and learning new sports! Not only for its stress-reducing effects, but also for its (anti?-)aging and health benefits! Did you know that grip strength and cognitive function are related? You better work on those forearms! ;)
Also, the lactate your body produces during sports seems to potentiate neuroplasticity! I find this to be a good enough reason to put on those shoes and go for a jog.

Other things I like to do in my free time are:
Watching movies. You should watch the James Bond saga. It is fascinating to observe the changes in our society through the progression of the movies.
Reading. I used to read history books but I recently got into Sci-Fi books. What a discovery! Besides the classics, I'm currently reading Matt Dinniman hilarious saga "Dungeon Crawler Carl". Totally recommended!
I started creating leather bracelets, but that didn't really stick.
Improve my financial literacy. Yes! You read that well. Not exactly a hobby, but more of a self-growth self-imposed task. It's not like anyone will get rich working in academia!
Blogging. Tried it once, but I pushed it aside. So trying it again! I plan to write 1x blog post a month to share my experience during the PhD, the step of moving from Europe to the US, my thoughts on diverse science topics and my knowledge on data analysis and the pain-sleep interaction.

Dear reader, you have reached the end of this post. Congrats! And thank you!

If you think we could work well together, we could collaborate or need counceling or advice, contact me!

I'm always more than happy to meet new people and discuss science and not-so-sciency topics!
